Let's Celebrate YAB Crew Member Caroline Tung Richmond's THE ONLY THING TO FEAR!

We may be knee-deep in Fall Writing Bootcamp madness this month, but we have another really big, really exciting event to celebrate: the upcoming release of our very own Caroline Tung Richmond's debut YA novel, THE ONLY THING TO FEAR! The book hits shelves on September 30, and so for the next two weeks, you'll be hearing a lot about it from our crew.

So what's it about? Here's the scoop:

In a stunning reimagining of history, debut author Caroline Tung Richmond weaves an incredible story of secrets and honor in a world where Hitler won World War II.

It's been nearly 80 years since the Allies lost WWII in a crushing defeat against Hitler's genetically engineered super soldiers. America has been carved up by the victors, and 16-year-old Zara lives a life of oppression in the Eastern America Territories. Under the iron rule of the Nazis, the government strives to maintain a master race, controlling everything from jobs to genetics. Despite her mixed heritage and hopeless social standing, Zara dreams of the free America she's only read about in banned books. A revolution is growing, and a rogue rebel group is plotting a deadly coup. Zara might hold the key to taking down the Führer for good, but it also might be the very thing that destroys her. Because what she has to offer the rebels is something she's spent her entire life hiding, under threat of immediate execution by the Nazis.

In this action-packed, heart-stopping novel of a terrifying reality that could have been, Zara must decide just how far she'll go for freedom.

Sounds amazing, right?

Know what else is amazing? The YA Buccaneers are giving away seven (!!!) copies of Caroline's book to lucky readers! To enter, write up a quick response to one of the following prompts:

  • THE ONLY THING TO FEAR takes place in an alternate-history version of the U.S., in which the Nazis won World War II. Imagine an alternate ending to a big event in your own life. How could things have turned out differently?
  • In THE ONLY THING TO FEAR, Zara has to decide whether to join a revolution. Was there ever a time in your life that you had to choose to break the rules for the greater good? Or are you currently writing a character who has to make this choice? What is his or her dilemma?

You have until September 30 to share your response. You can paste it into the comments on this post, or link to a post on your own blog. Length isn't a factor, and your submission doesn't have to be polished! We're just eager to hear what you have to say. To help you get inspired, some of our crew members will be sharing their responses over the next week and a half, as well.

We're so thrilled for Caroline, and we know you're going to love her book!
