Today on the YA Buccaneers we have yet another amazing 2016 debut author! Meet, Elizabeth Briggs, YA author of FUTURE SHOCK!
And actually, Liz has published many NA books already, but this year marks her debut into YA titles!
I'm also super lucky to have had the chance to FINALLY meet Liz in person back in June after all these years knowing her online -- not to mention, I also got to meet her ha-larious husband, who had me in stitches pretty much my entire trip!
Get to know Elizabeth, read a little more about her and what she's working on next, and don't forget to enter for a chance to win a signed hardcover copy of her YA debut, FUTURE SHOCK!
A little about Elizabeth:
Elizabeth Briggs is a full-time geek who writes books for teens and adults. She graduated from UCLA with a degree in Sociology, currently mentors teens in writing, and volunteers with a dog rescue group. She's the author of the new adult Chasing The Dream series and the upcoming young adult novel Future Shock. Elizabeth lives in Los Angeles with her husband and a pack of fluffy dogs. You can connect with her online at: www.elizabethbriggs.net
And more about her YA book, FUTURE SHOCK:
What do you do when the future is too late, and the present is counting down to an inevitable moment?
Elena Martinez has street smarts, the ability for perfect recall, and a deadline: if she doesn’t find a job before she turns eighteen, she’ll be homeless. But then she gets an unexpected offer from Aether Corporation, the powerful Los Angeles tech giant. Along with four other recruits—Adam, Chris, Trent, and Zoe—Elena is being sent on a secret mission to bring back data from the future. All they have to do is get Aether the information they need, and the five of them will be set for life. It’s an offer Elena can’t refuse.
But something goes wrong when the time travelers arrive in the future. And they are forced to break the only rule they were given—not to look into their own fates. Now they have twenty-four hours to get back to the present and find a way to stop a seemingly inevitable future—and a murder—from happening. But changing the timeline has deadly consequences too. Who can Elena trust as she fights to save her life?
The first book in an unforgettable series about rewriting your destiny in the city of dreams.
Now on to our interview -- and like all of our authors before, Liz gets the same questions to answer for us!
Erin L. Schneider / Captain E. Hook: What was a favorite scene or moment in FUTURE SHOCK for you to write? And what brought the biggest challenge?
Elizabeth Briggs: My favorite scene is the first kiss scene – I like writing romance! The biggest challenge was figuring out all the time travel and mystery elements to make sure they worked. I had to plot and re-plot the book multiple times.
ELS / CEH: Now that you've officially debuted, if you could go back and tell yourself something about your publishing journey, what would it be?
EB: Dear Past Liz: I know things are tough right now, and you feel like you will never be published, but stick with it because in a few short years you will have multiple books published and more on their way! Don’t give up!
ELS / CEH: The YA Buccaneers primarily caters to writers in all phases of the journey to publication -- what advice would you give those that want to publish their first YA novel?
EB: Persistence is the number one thing that makes someone a published author. I got my agent with my third novel, but it didn’t sell. My fourth book didn’t seem like it would sell either – and didn’t until after my fifth book was self-published. There were many times when I wanted to give up, but now I’m so glad I didn’t.
Also, get critique partners and writing friends you can trust, who are at the same stage as you are, so that you can share the journey together. These people will be your lifeline when things get difficult!
ELS / CEH: What book(s) can currently be found on your bedside table?
EB: I have a TBR pile that is a mile high! Next up, I’m reading TIMEKEEPER by Tara Sim and planning to start The Remnant Chronicles series by Mary E Pearson.
ELS / CEH: Any chance you can share what you're working on next? We'd love to hear what you have in store for us!
EB: I just finished edits on FUTURE THREAT, the sequel to FUTURE SHOCK, which comes out March 2017…and just announced there will be a third book in the series coming in 2018 called FUTURE LOST! I’m also working on the final book in my New Adult series, MORE THAN DISTANCE.
