Our Spring Writing Bootcamp starts today! You can still join, of course! Click here for more info.
Since today is the first day of Spring Writing Bootcamp, we wanted to chat a little bit about setting GOALS. There are few things you can do when you set goals to help make them happen.
Psst, we share these in greater detail when you join bootcamp!
1. Get specific
Before you dive into bootcamp (or any writing challenge), set concrete goals for yourself: Words. Pages. Number of blog posts. Then break down your big goals into smaller, more manageable goals. Not only will it help you make sure your goal is reasonable, but it will also help make your goal feel less overwhelming.
We made goal-setting SUPER easy for our bootcampers! When you sign up for Spring Writing Bootcamp, we email you an intro pack with goal-setting worksheets to help you break down your goals and make them happen. Click the image below to sign up & get your copy!
2. Find friends
There is NOTHING like having a fellow writer hold you accountable to your goals. Checking in not only will help motivate you, but you'll also help your friend. Perfect! We have private groups for our bootcampers to help you build up your writing community, but also to help hold you accountable to your goals. You can also find local friends to meet up with, or a friend to IM or text regular check-ins.
3. Plan ahead
There's nothing worse than setting a big writing goal, only to realize you have houseguests next week, or you forgot about a school event, or there's a long weekend out of town you forgot about ... you get the idea. Those set backs might derail your motivation and make you feel like you've lost your chance to meet your goal. So before you start writing, take the time to plan in your writing time, and plan around events. You won't regret it.
But wait, there's more! We put together a few of our best posts about setting goals, tracking your progress, and staying focused. Take a look, there might be something that's just what you need to have a successful bootcamp:
- Do you need a writing diet?
- How do you pick your next project?
- How to have a successful NaNoWriMo (or any writing challenge!) experience
- The best online resources for outlining, drafting, and revising your novel
- How to survive the dreaded first draft
- How to quiet your inner editor and get back to writing
- How to keep your writing goals (or: how to track your progress & stay motivated!)
